 Administration
1) All examinations must be monitored by ATC, Physician, Neuropsychologist or another familiar with software.
- Software can be installed on stand-alone PC's or on computer networks.
- External mouse must be used with all stand-alone PC's.
- For network applications, call ImPACT's Technical Support Team (FlanTech Support).
- Test Administrator should take ImPACT a minimum of three times to become familiar.
- Nine digit ID number and proper birth date must be assigned for each athlete.
- Any nine digit number can be utilized.
2) Group administration is encouraged to expedite baseline testing.
- Groups of 10-15 athletes optimal.
- Optimal performance of each athlete is critical to establish "true" baseline.
- Close proctoring of exam necessary to minimize "horseplay."
- May be better to have one empty terminal between athletes.
- Complete demographic information screen by screen and as a group.
- Let athletes complete symptom inventory and neuropsychological tests individually.
- Encourage athlete to raise hand if they have questions.
- Stress that athletes must understand directions of each module before proceeding.
- Stress that athletes must respond as quickly as possible on timed tests.
3) Save all ImPACT© data.
- A password is required at the conclusion of each exam. By default, this is admin.
- To view reports, select Tools then Report from the menu.
- If graphs of composite scores are desired, the appropriate box will need to be checked.
4) If desired, data may be submitted electronically for sports concussion research database.
- See accompanying sheet for instructions.
- Appropriate research consent should be attained for each athlete.
- Be sure to print hard copy for each athlete for your records.
- Save one copy for your file.
- Submit data to PJ at FlanTech Computer Service to support@flantech.net
- Names and identifying information will be stripped by default when submitting data.
5) Post-concussion testing is recommended within 48-72 hours after injury. Dr. Lovell/Collins may be called for clinical consultation at the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program.
- First consultation with Dr. Lovell/Collins is encouraged and is free.
- Data should be emailed or faxed to UPMC Sports Concussion Program.
- If baseline testing was completed on a networked computer, post-concussion testing should be conducted on the same network (or PC) to bypass demographic data and to access baseline data.
- Proper nine digit ID number and birth date must be entered for each athlete to pull file from database and bypass demographic information. Use of a different ID number will create a new data file.
- Testing completed on different free-standing computers (e.g. Laptops) can easily be imported or exported for storage/viewing on a different computer system.
- FlanTech Technical Support can be contacted if there are questions regarding this process.
