About the John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine

The John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine is a division of Allied Services which is a quality-driven, not-for-profit health care system (2 free standing rehabilitation hospitals, 16 outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facility) which provides all aspects of rehabilitation throughout Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania as well as bordering states.

Schools Using ImPACT

Our goal is to market and promote sports concussion management and ImPACT within our community. Currently, the John Heinz Institute has ten affiliations: Minor League Baseball (Philadelphia Phillies), the American Hockey League W-B (Pittsburgh) Penguins, University of Scranton, Penn State University - Wilkes-Barre, Wyoming Seminary PrepSchool, Nanticoke Area High School, Heads Up for Hockey...Youth Hockey Program, MMI Preparatory School, Dallas Area High School, Crestwood High School, Tamaqua Area High School, Wyoming Valley West, Marywood and Lackawanna Junior College.



Community Work and Involvement

As noted above, Dr. Raymond has presented and published extensively in the area of traumatic brain injury, and in particular, post-concussion. Moreover, members of the Brain Injury Program are a part of a national Think First Program which promotes education within school systems regarding prevention of brain and spinal cord injuries.


ImPACT History:

Within the Department of Clinical/Forensic Neuropsychology, the usage of ImPACT has begun in the spring of 2005. ImPACT software is utilized as part of the John Heinz Rehab Concussion Management Program. Combining ImPACT, if necessary, with comprehensive neuropsychological assessment of the concussed athlete provides valuable information to assist in making return to play decisions and insuring the health of our athletes.

Dr. Raymond and the team at John Heinz Rehab are dedicated to the comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and management of sports related concussion. From baseline assessment to post concussion management, we work with physicians, athletic trainers, sports medicine personnel, and coaches in bringing state of the are care to the athlete to insure safe return to play.

Dr. Raymond, over his course of 20 years at the John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, has lectured and published extensively in the areas of brain injury rehabilitation and post-concussion. This has resulted in numerous newspaper releases, television and radio shows, and newspaper articles.
