ImPACT History:
TSMC began using ImPACT in August 2003. In our first year as ImPACT providers we chose to begin with two licenses. One was for the Texas Soccer Club and the other was for TSMC. Our goals were to learn the program through the soccer club and to be able to provide an important service for individual athletes within our service area. TSMC's service area includes 14 high schools and 1 university.
The Texas Soccer Club's Board of Directors and coaches endorsed the program and in a month's time we had baseline tested 218 athletes. Because TSMC's athletic trainers travel with Challenge to several competitions during the year, we purchased a lap top computer to assist in testing the injured athlete. Since the baseline tests have been completed, we have tested seven concussed athletes. In doing so, we have a established a physician network which understands the concept behind ImPACT. More importantly, we have earned rave reviews on the program from the injured athletes parents.
For the program purchased for the community. We had six concussions during football season. The athletes came from 3 different schools. As we hoped, word has spread about our ImPACT program. We have given lectures and meet privately with athletic trainers and athletic directors.
Currently, we have commitments from one university and four high schools. We are meeting with administrators from four other high schools in February.
