About Yampa Valley Medical Center - Sports Medicine

A service of Yampa Valley Medical Center, the SportsMed Concussion Management Program (SCMP) is a community-based approach to concussion management partnering with doctors, physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches, school counselors, nurses, teachers and families. This coordinated effort allows for the best possible outcome for the athlete or individual and insures a safe return to play, school and work. The focus of care is to provide education and concussion prevention, in addition to an individualized approach to concussion management.

SCMP provides a complete assessment including neurocognitive testing (ImPACT), neurological testing, balance/vestibular testing, visual testing, musculoskeletal evaluation, graded concussion symptom scale assessment, and staged exertional testing. As an individual recovers from a concussion, clinicians can determine when it is safe for the patient to return to sport, school and work activities.

Dr. Dana Fitzgerald received her M.D. from the University of North Dakota, completed her residency in General Pediatrics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, and also completed a Pediatric Sports Medicine Fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Baylor College of Medicine.
