About Athlete Concussion Alliance
The Athletes Concussion Alliance is a collaboration of medical professionals around the state of Indiana caring for athletes that have suffered a mild traumatic brain injury. It serves as a web of clinicians throughout the state ready to care for the athlete with a mild traumatic brain injury and make a safe decision regarding return to play. This serves as a funded program that allows schools to create baselines at no cost. The program has trained more than 20 clinicians to interpret the ImPACT data and has included more than 100 high schools in the baseline program. Education of our state is a crucial component of our program and we share a common goal of safe return to sports without letting any injured athlete slip through the cracks.
Schools Using ImPACT
Through this program and generous donors we have been able to create a baseline program that pays for baselines at schools and clubs throughout Indiana. We have had over 100 schools in the program and more than 20 clinicians have been trained.
ImPACT History:
Our history with ImPACT dates back to around 2003 when Dr Kersey and Dr Arnold saw the story of an athlete in Washington that had suffered second impact syndrome with devastating life long changes. We wanted that to never happen on our watch. After being trained to use the software we then both travelled to Pittsburgh several times to learn from Micky and Mark on the nuances of the test and clinical protocols. A challenge was posed to us to start something in Indiana. This was the creation of the statewide network and baseline program.
